Saints George, Demetrius, Panteleimon, Theodore the Stratelates (the General) and Saint Theodore and Tiron, Hosios Antonios
Two-part icon presenting six Saints into zones. In the upper part the military Saints George, Demetrius and the physician Saint Panteleimon are depicted, while in the lower part the military Saints Theodore the Stratelates (the General), Theodore Tiron and Hosios Antonios. In the icon several concepts are expressed such as the attributes of the military saints as defenders of the Christians from the enemies, the healing power of Saint Panteleimon or Saint Antonios, the great eremite of the desert, hinting at theologian issues. The style in rendering the expressive faces and the slender figures of the Saints, in combination with the care in depicting their garments along with the bright colors let the researchers suppose that the icon was made in a Constantinopolitan workshop, late 14th – early 15th centuries.
