Saint Nicholas (leather icon)
Saint Nicholas is represented in bust in his hierarchical dress, blessing with his right hand and holding a closed Gospel in his left hand. Saint Nicholas is depicted in Glory made of rectangular impressed motives, which is framed by riverine vegetation and two birds. Possibly this exceptional icon could have been a labarum (banner). Regarding its material and style, it presents similarities to the icon of the Venerable Forerunner (Timios Prodromos) in the collection of the Benaki Museum. The pair of the icons comes from Kastoria and dates from the late 17th century.
