3rd Thessaloniki Biennale of Contemporary Art.

The curators of the main program of the 3rd Biennial, in response to the current social and political conditions in the Mediterranean region, and not only, chose the title of the main program and write in their main, ideological text for the organization:

“In the current conditions of the growing instability, the title The Cliff and the Stream acquires a peculiar dynamic as captures the sense of the fragility and of the danger that dominate the policies, exercised in the Mediterranean, but also in the psychology of the individual itself. Under the influence of the danger and a doubt like that of Hamlet’s, contemporary artists produce works, which are often characterized by a defensive, ironic mood.

The main program of the 3rd Thessaloniki Biennale of Contemporary Art draws inspiration from the city as a metaphor of its past intense multicultural character. Every one of the sites that will host the exhibitions of the main program (5 historical monuments and 5 museums) constitutes an episode from the overall narrative. These episodes are inspired by the past and current use of these buildings, their old and modern contribution to the social life and the political conflicts of the city, while the artists and the works hosted were specially selected for them.

Thus, the visitor of the exhibition will walk through the city and at the same time will learn its history and become part of its life”. 3rd Thessaloniki Biennale of Contemporary Art.
